Women's Lives Leeds Community Development Worker
What I do
I am the Women’s Lives Leeds Community Development Worker for the East of the city. I offer outreach support to women and girls who live in the area. If you are part of a community group for women and girls and would like me to visit your session then please get in touch, it would be great to meet you!
What I did before
SO many different things! I’ve worked in cafes, call centres and finally settled into a career supporting young people across Leeds to reach their potential. I’ve enjoyed leading on youth projects and setting up services for young people to access opportunities and to reach their full potential.
I love what I do and am passionate about working with communities to empower them to lead happy and healthy lives.
A bit about me
I come from a small village in Cambridgeshire and moved to Leeds 10 years ago, I LOVE this city soooo much and I’m really glad that I moved here.
Music and Art are massive passions of mine and I love going to gigs and checking out art galleries/exhibitions!
Specialist CSE Worker, Safe Space
What I do
I work on the Safe Space service as Specialist CSE worker.
I support individual young women aged 11 - 18 deal with issues that they may be facing. I work closely with other organisations to make sure that the young woman gets the right support for them.
What I did before
I had quite a few jobs before deciding that I would like to work with young people! I worked in a café, in retail, behind a bar…even had a go at hairdressing!
It was during my degree course in Child and Family Studies that I had the chance to work on a project in Secondary Schools in South Yorkshire. I realised that I loved working individually and in groups with the students, empowering them to think positively about their futures.
After University I worked for Connexions, where I stayed for almost 13 years and completed an NVQ. I’ve had lots of different job titles and worked all over Leeds, but always supporting young people and their families.
I’m now really proud to be part of the fantastic work that goes on at Getaway Girls.
A little bit about me
mmm….?! I really love dancing and keep fit classes but I don’t get to do this very much at the moment as my two small children take up most of my time!!!
I’m really into upcycling old furniture and have done a few little projects. I absolutely love “me time” whether it’s a spa day, meeting up with friends, walking the dog or just me, a magazine and a bar of chocolate!!
As a trustee of Getaway Girls I feel very happy and encouraged at the way the organisation works with the young women in and around Leeds. Getaway Girls was formerly my place of work and a place where I had seen young women motivated, supported and uplifted in many aspects of life.
Although retired from paid employment four years ago I have still be involved with Getaway Girls in a different capacity and when asked to join the management team as a Trustee I gladly agreed.
I am not a spring chicken but having been a teenager in the 60’s I have an appreciation and an understanding of changing times. The 60’s has been rightly declared the revolutionary decade for music, fashion and debate on life changing issues. Today the world of young women is an ever changing environment and I believe that Getaway Girls is a place where young women have a voice which is able to influence change for the better.
Having volunteered for over 35 years for Guiding UK, I am aware of the needs of girls and young women and feel I can work alongside my trustee colleagues to keep Getaway Girls moving forward in this changing climate.
I enjoy my family, having a husband, two married children and three grandchildren, I also have a large loving extended family and church family. I am a trustee and member of my local Baptist church and I am a committed Christian. My ‘free’ time is spent as much as possible with my grandchildren, walking with my friends and family, reading and knitting.

To establish an inclusive community that supports & encourages authentic relationships, which celebrates our uniqueness & our personal journey to fulfil our highest potential.
We are so honoured to be able to fundraise for Getaway girls whose mission brings joy and gratitude to our hearts.
