The main aim of
the cultural Identity/ Diversity work is to enable young women
from diverse backgrounds to explore their own cultural identity
and find out about each other’s cultural heritage

We offer a range of creative, fun activities which help young
women celebrate our cultural heritage
Cultural Identity & Diversity Programme includes
• Cultivate workshops
• Cultural exchange visits
• Support groups including Asian young women’s
group
• 6 week Cultivate groups in schools
• Cultural celebration events eg Black history month
celebrating women
Peer education training to run community cultivate
Peer educators run 2 hour schools and community workshops
focusing on food, music, dance etc from many cultures and
research Role models who inspire us / who have made a difference
to lives

Some highlights
include
*Black History Month Event focusing on Celebrating Black women
achievers who have influenced us from the past as well as
local women. The event included a presentation/slideshow about
women who influence us, a fashion show, dance and music performances,
speakers including Leeds Black Elders group and Leeds Young
Authors and fun, food and activities from a diverse range
of cultures

Asian girls group
A group offering support for Asian girls aged 13-17 in partnership
with Leeds Youth service and Shantona women’s Centre
offering the opportunity to make friends and learn new skills
in a safe environment.
Cultivate Schools groups including Allerton Grange High School
which focused on learning about a range of cultures and researching
influential women who have made a difference and are positive
role models from a diverse range of cultures Community Cultivate groups have focused on appreciating a range
of cultures, educational visits eg Museum in Liverpool. The
young women are doing training to support children and young
people to take part in workshops celebrating culture. They
are also planning cultural exchanges with other cities.
